Balanced Literacy

Balanced Literacy includes speaking, listening, reading, writing and use of technology.

Students should read to someone everyday for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Students should engage in conversation with peers and family.

Students should practice the alphabet letters and the sounds they make.  Then work on blending the sounds together to make words.

Students should also write responses to what they have read.  Keeping a journal helps with this.  Writing needs to be neat and legible.  Size and spacing are important.

Students may use a variety of websites.  Jefferson County Schools has a student website Symbaloo.  On this grid, students may access these sites.  Most do not require a password.
